Trauma

This word is different for everyone, but if you have experienced something that has shattered your sense of safety and security and you are feeling helpless, you are not alone. Nearly 90% of individuals seeking counseling have lived through at least one traumatic event. The following are just some examples of traumatic events:

  • Car Accidents

  • Childhood Neglect

  • Divorce

  • Fighting/Living in a war-zone or war-torn country or community

  • Health/Medical Issues

  • Incarceration

  • Natural Disasters

  • Physical/Sexual Abuse

  • Physical/Sexual Assault

Traumatic events affect everyone differently. Symptoms can range from mild anxiety to crushing debilitation. Trauma processing therapy is an effective tool for all ranges of symptoms.

LGBTQIA+

The LGBTQIA+ population often struggle with trauma symptoms, substance abuse, and difficult emotions at a higher rate in comparison to our heterosexual/cis-gender counterparts. This can be due to poor treatment or discrimination; often, LGBTQIA+ needs are not addressed or even considered. As a result, we go through life feeling “different” or “other”, breeding feelings of shame and inadequacy.

As a gay human my empathy with these feelings is genuine. As a therapist, I am prepared to offer assistance toward the stress and emotions stemming from the following:

  • Anxiety/Depression

  • Bullying - All formats

  • Discrimination at school or in the workplace

  • Family or Social Rejection

  • Gender Transition

  • Healthy Boundaries - Recognizing, Establishing, and Enforcing

  • Identity and Discovery

  • Romantic Relationship Roles

  • Self-harming Behaviors

  • Suicidal Thoughts

I offer a blend of EMDR and talk therapy. We will make a plan that is right for you.

Substance Abuse & Addiction

For many people, trauma and addiction go hand in hand. Many people begin to “deal with” tough life issues via substance abuse or addictions such as sex, eating, or gambling. After a while, they then find their behaviors have gotten out of hand. Here are some life circumstances that indicate you may have an addiction problem:

  • Adulting Dilemmas (needing help accomplishing daily tasks)

  • Emotional Health Complications (Anxiety, apathy, depression, etc.)

  • Financial Issues

  • Legal Trouble

  • Physical Health Problems

  • Relationship Disputes (family, friends, romantic, etc. )

  • School Challenges

If you are experiencing any of these issues, I am here to help you overcome these struggles. We can positively restructure your life.
